Biography

The Beautiful Couch is a tribute to The Beautiful South and the Housemartins

Herein lies the tale of how ‘The Beautiful Couch’ started. Eddy (Lead Vocalist/Heaton lookalike), who has plied his singing and comedy talents around the club circuit for a few years, decided to form a Beautiful South and Housemartins tribute act. He had been told many times that he sounded and looked like Paul Heaton, so much in fact he decided to use what the great man upstairs had given him. Yes, he used his Dads old records from the loft to practice singing like Heato. Eddy then recruited the services of Liz (Female Lead Vocalist) in June 2002 to sing the bits other men just can’t reach. Liz was a revelation due to the fact that she had never sang in public before and that she was quite good at it too. They both started working the local Hull, club and pub scene, singing to backing tracks and they soon became VERY popular. Offers of work came flooding in, some of which they could not take up due to the fact they had not got a live band. This spurred the duo on to advertise for musicians.

Martin and Alan had seen the Duo version of 'The Couch' at one of their club gigs. They were duly impressed. They later found out through George (Liz's friend ;>)) that they wanted to expand. Martin approached Liz and said, "I'll do it. I'll also get a band together too. By the way, some people say I look like Tom Cruise". This seemed to do the trick (Liz thought having a stumpy actor lookalike would bode well for the band) and they gave the lads a chance. Martin got together Tim, Al and George (who was temporary but not any more) and they started learning some sublime sounds. About two months later and a few practices, laughs and temper tantrums down the line, the band played it's first live gig. It went well. In fact it went VERY well.

In February 2015 Al played his last gig for the band. Read his goodbye as he is moving on to another place and we all wish him well. This left an empty stool. Who better to fill it than our friend and, more importantly, drummer, Ben Wilson. Bens first gig was at the KC Stadium in front of thousands of people!! It was ok though as we supplied him with a pair of brown trousers and some bicycle clips! The band reached their latest peak by playing the world famous Cavern Club in March 2016, See us there again soon!

THE COUCH ARE 'WELL' ON THEIR WAY.
