Columbia have been
together for over three years now and have grown from a band that
only played "covers" to a band that has become both
confident in playing and writing their own material. However, they
still play the odd gig playing a mixture of both covers and
originals. Their journey began as friends, jamming and throwing
ideas around until Alex Crawshaw and Chris Quinton decided to make a
commitment to form a band. Soon after, Peter Rowell was brought in
to play bass. Columbia were now closer to becoming a proper band but
were lacking a certain man to front them; Simon "Sid"
Brown was the chosen target and after a very small amount of
persuasion the band became complete.
Since that first gig
on January 30th 2015, the band have grown from strength to strength
playing in Burnley, Manchester (Night and Day Cafe, Manchester
University and Late Room), Sunderland, and many other
places.
The band are a four
piece indie rock band writing original material and also playing the
songs people want to hear. They have had many successes, the
highlight being support
band to Whitesnake at a sold out Burnley Mechanics and supporting
10000 Things (signed to Snow Patrols label}.
Columbia also
recently won a competition on BBC radio Lancashire for best new song
(Read between the lines). As for the future, the band are continuing
to write original material
in their quest for that well deserved recognition. Having
just played a return date to a packed out local venue The
Talbot the band are continuing to play live again after a very quiet
summer. The band are continuing to push themselves to play more
gigs, write more songs and trying to continually improve on the
previous material that has been written.
Hopefully the hard work will pay off but until then they will
keep on trying...
