Dave Hinton (drums)
and Andy Edwards (bass & vocals) originally formed Escape from
Alcatraz sometime in 2002. They had both been in several bands
previously, but could see no real future in these bands. They
started off jamming bass and drums alone as a side project to pass
the dark winter nights in Kidderminster, but there was always
something missing. It needed guitar, and jamming with Steve Wilcox
for the first time gave them the confidence that they might be
onto something good.
In 2015 the band
suffered a few setbacks, as some of their equipment was stolen and
they parted company with guitarist Steve.
At the beginning of
2016 they found a replacement. Lee Jeffries, who had been in a
band with them both previously offered to temporarily help out. It
worked out really well; they had all played together before and
knew each other well.
Since Lee joined,
they have been writing new and better material and are going from
strength to strength. They have supported several local bands,
always receiving a warm reception, and building up a fan base in
the local area.
In August 2016 they
recorded their first demo ‘Try to touch the sky?' at Red Light
studio in Wolverhampton. The coming months see the band playing
more and more gigs, and hopefully going on to bigger and better
things.
Andy says "I
don’t think it’s all about being big, rich and famous. Of
course we’d like that! Who wouldn’t really? I’d be happy to
make a living off it and see a bit more of the world. It’s
really hard though, there’s so much unrecognised talent out
there waiting for discovery, so we’ll just keep doing what we
enjoy doing!"
Escape from
Alcatraz are an alternative rock band. They don’t claim to be
the ‘new sound just a different one. Their main influences and
favourite bands all vary from Muse, Foo Fighters and Red Hot
Chilli Peppers, to Mogwai and Metallica
They have a fairly
modern sound and their songs are varied, full of energy and
catchy. They can be angry and melodic, sad but uplifting and who
knows what they will write next...
