Fungal Ashtray come from Halifax, West Yorkshire and
have built up a large following through regular gigging throughout the region and beyond. Their self produced E.P The
Girl With Green Eyes has created a lot of interest and caught the eye of the
University of Lancaster who have booked the band alongside signed bands at their end of term ball.
It is nearly three years since Dale Castell 20
(Drums), and Ben Longworth 19 (Guitar) joined the existing trio of Arran Harrison 23 (Bass), Danny Keast 22 (Guitar) and
Rick Hand 22 (Vocals) to complete the line up and since this date the band have grown into an original and inventive
Indie rock pop outfit.
Influences in the band range from the vocal stylings
of soul legend Otis Redding, the whirlwind drumming of Keith Moon, the melodic guitar lines of The Smiths and The
Rolling Stones to the groove laden bass lines of early Tamala Motown. Add to this the band’s own humour and Fungal
Ashtray present a truly unique sound through their large number of original songs which conjure images of the classic
musical line ups whilst being fresh, exciting and new.
In
late 2001 Fungal Ashtray produced a five track EP-‘The girl with green eyes’ on their own digital portastudio which
created a lot of interest from promoters across the North of England culminating in two headline slots at the legendary
Cavern Club in Liverpool. Both of these gigs went down a storm with the local crowd and with the coach loads of
followers who had made their way over to watch the band, they were truly memorable nights.
