Biography |
NYC indie power pop/rocker JANA PERI
and the boys mix British Invasion and punk influences,
resulting in a powerful and tasty pop cocktail. Harmonies and
hooks galore! The singer/songwriter/guitarist was one of the
winners of ROCKRGRL Magazine's Discoveries 2016
contest. PERI's signature song, "Dating Sucks," from her
debut self-titled EP, was chosen for the lead track on the
magazine's compilation CD. The as-yet-unsigned artist is currently
recording a new full-length CD with noted New York producer Daniel
Rey (Ramones, Misfits, Ronnie Spector). One track from the
forthcoming CD, "Go Ahead" has already been released on
the International Pop Overthrow: Volume 7 compilation
on American power pop and melodic rock label, Not Lame Recordings.
PERI is looking forward to playing at the International
Pop Overthrow Festival at The Cavern in October 2016.
Influenced by the British Invasion rock of the 1960s as well as the
punk and new wave of the 1970s and 1980s, vocalist/songwriter Jana
Peri has specialized in hook-laden power pop pop/rock that is
aggressive yet melodic. Peri has lived in the New York area her
entire life; born in the Bronx, she moved to suburban Long Island at
the age of two and stayed there until she turned 18 and moved to
Manhattan. Growing up on Long Island, Peri absorbed a variety of
rock and pop/rock. As a preteen, she admired Elvis Presley and Jerry
Lee Lewis and was heavily into British Invasion rockers like the
Beatles (a major influence), the Rolling Stones, the Who, and the
Kinks; and it wasn't long before she was influenced by Blondie, the
Pretenders, and Joan Jett. Peri, who was singing and playing guitar
before adolescence, has described John Lennon, Paul McCartney,
Blondie's Debbie Harry, and the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde as
"personal icons." After graduating from high school and
leaving Long Island for Manhattan, Peri attended New York University
and graduated with a degree in drama. By 1994, she was singing in
Manhattan rock clubs, and in 1999, she released a self-titled EP on
her own Hot Jupiter label. -- All Music Guide
Punk Magazine
"Jana's professional & polished, she sings well +
enunciates her lyrics so you can hear them, the music is crisp and
clear...Which is basically what's wrong here...I think maybe Jana
should have gotten drunk + fucked up before she went in the studio
to record this. That or maybe she should get out of rock 'n' roll
and into cabaret or something. (Although I have to admit her lyrics
to "Dating Sucks" are very, very funny.)"
Santa Monica Mirror
"...tough chick Jana Peri’s self-titled four-song EP is
punked up, operatic power pop -- Joan Jett jamming with Chrissie
Hynde. On “The La La Song,” Peri’s British Invasion roots are
showing and it’s a boisterous delight."
NY Press
"...poppy-punk a la the Go-Gos or the Donnas. Also she
really does have a great voice and the songs are catchy."
ROCKRGRL
"Dating Sucks," the lead track on ROCKRGRL Discoveries
2016, brings a healthy does of levity to the mix.
Midwest Beat
"...Ronnie Spector, Patti Smith and The Ramones whipped up
in a blender."
Mod Radio UK
"At last we seem to have found another princess for the Mod
scene...this stunning 4 track CD release is a true testament of
greater things to come!...this 60s Influenced Rock Chic shouldn't
and must not be overlooked!"
