Mood
and beauty will draw you into the music of Australian
singer/songwriter Melanie George. Her fluid keyboard style and
smooth honey voice held audiences captive at last year’s Brisbane
Livid Festival and attracted audiences during supports with Ben
Folds, Pete Murray, Alex Lloyd, The Sleepy Jackson, Little Birdy,
Ben Kweller and Ben Lee.
Melanie
has supported many others over the last couple of years between her
Gold Coast home, Brisbane and Sydney, however, supporting Frank
Bennett presented a more diverse opportunity for her, which she
completed with aplomb, finishing with a duet with him on the classic
"Somethin’ Stupid".
The
daughter of a singer and a writer, Melanie's childhood was spent in
Australia interspersed with travel to England, France and Greece
which made a lasting impression on her. Singing, writing and
performing from the age of 5, she studied classical piano for 12
years before venturing into more experimental territory. A passion
for songwriting combined with the driving urge to perform, has led
to the development of a promising solo career.
As
a solo performer and with her band, Melanie George brings her piano
and voice together to melt seamlessly and effortlessly into a pop-pourri
of soulful ambience and contemporary jazz, blues and classical all
to inspiring effect. Melanie’s debut EP ‘On My Way’ released
early 2015, barely scratched the surface of her natural and
considerable talent.
Produced
by Melanie and Leon Prescott at Brisbane’s Sunshine Studios, ‘On
My Way’ proved to be a favourite with both fans and critics alike.
“Quickfix”, from the EP, received national airplay on Triple J
and many other radio stations stretching from Cairns to Hobart.
Now
we have "Works In Progress" – the next EP from Melanie
featuring six new songs that lead the way in a different direction.
With the solo performances of "Out of The Blue", the
driving groove of “Great Escape”, the understated soul of
“Little Sister” and “Never Mine” and the hypnotic rock of
“Shelter" and “All the Girl”, Melanie's potential as an
artist and songwriter is becoming realized through the production of
Glenn Marshall.
Melanie
continues to find new audiences through her live shows on the east
coast of Australia, and in London where her recent visits attracted
a great deal of interest from fellow performers and punters alike. A
second trip to the UK and Europe beckons Melanie to satisfy a strong
desire to soak up the cities of the world and more importantly to
perform to new audiences everywhere, as she says;
"It's
all about taking them away for a while when they hear your
music".
