A melodic style is only
part of the appeal in the talented young Canadian rock foursome
known as the Ryecatchers. Within six years of being formed in
Vancouver, the Ryecatchers have presented their distinct big/melodic
sound to enthusiastic audiences at most of the area's independent
and major music stages.
Their energetic and engaging sets deliver memorable songs with great
hooks ranging from
up-tempo rockers to dark and moody ballads. Originally from Warrington
England, Dan Newton (vocals/guitar) and his cousin Paul Gibbons
(vocals/bass) play
alongside Mark Christopher (lead guitars) with Gary Grace (drums).
Dan's powerful vocals
deliver the lyrics to most of the Ryecatchers songs while
he plays rhythm guitar. Dan's charismatic stage presence is fun,
energetic and genuine.
Paul delivers expertly crafted bass lines while singing harmony
vocals and lead
vocals on several tracks. Similarly to Dan, Paul has an on-stage
presence that is
characterized by the sharp wit borne of their common origins.
Mark adds melodic flare to a cool, disciplined skill which is his
trademark playing
style. His presence is unmistakable when he erupts into one of his
guitar solos.
Although he is newer to the group, Gary has established himself to
be what confidently
unifies the band as a whole. His remarkable explosive performance
takes the Ryecatchers to
new levels of sound. Is it any wonder that he has tutored
the likes of the drummers for "Nickelback" and
"Theory of a Dead Man" in
his spare time.
Oasis, the Who, the Beatles and Radiohead are among the bands that
influenced the
Ryecatchers characteristic sound. Their upcoming full album release
is to be released
in the fall of 2016.
