WELCOME
to the glitter-soaked world of SADIE
HAWKINS DANCE, the most dangerous, infectiously catchy
ensemble to blast out of South Cumbria since Legionnaire’s
disease.
Reinventing GLAM - GLittery
Anthemic
Melodic
- Rock, SHD’s recipe is a
secret blend of no-nonsense pithy lyrics and a plutonic energy,
encased in hard metallic icing, with more
fret-fireworks than a cold November's eve.
Singer Crystal Grenade, described by Manchester’s City
Life as “Gwen Stefani on a bad acid trip”, leads the
troupe. With the dress sensibility of Penny Crayon, the posturings
of Freddie Mercury, and the stare of Hazel O’Connor, all lacquered
perfectly into place with umpteen cans of glitter spray, Ms. Grenade
causes quite a technicolour splash where e’er she tottles in her 6
inch stilettos.
With intelligent, spiky lyrics, SHD urge their listeners to harness
the energy generated at a live gig, and use it to fight the good
fight, remembering that there is more to life than consuming and
individualism.
SADIE HAWKINS DANCE have graced
stages alongside the likes of The
Glitterati, The Thermals, No Comply, Failsafe, Vice Squad, UK Subs,
Kate Rusby, Misty’s Big Adventure, Antiproduct and The
Dogs d’Amour, and have played several festivals,
including Solfest,
Thimbleberry and Leamington’s Peace
Festival.
In
May 2005, SHD
undertook a tour of Norway alongside Ribozyme, Bergen’s answer to Tool.
Such was the success of the tour that the band will be
returning to Scandinavia for a full-length tour in Summer 2006, as
well as several ‘mini-tours’ prior to this.
(see www.sadiehawkins.co.uk
for the Norway ‘Tour and Food’ diary!)
The
band’s soliciting in Norway led to them signing a record deal with
October Party Records, and having 4 tracks featured on Punk In Disguise..Vol 2, an internationally-released
split album with Norwegian, Polish, German and Chinese punk bands,
which was released in June 2005.
There
is currently much excitement in Camp SHD with the arrival of new
drummer Grazer Bennett, and the sudden courtship of several
noteworthy record labels, which has led to some free studio time in
January.
