The
story starts back in February 2005 when RBS brought two music lovers
together in a Lanarkshire call centre in the form of new recruits
Graeme Farmer and Pete Stewart. Here the gratitude towards RBS ends.
Graeme and Pete started regular beer and writing sessions and their
contrasting approaches produced songs that showed promise of
becoming something special. After jamming and playing covers gigs
they decided that they were meant for better things. Their search
for the next level was fulfilled with the arrival of Chris Macrae,
bass player extraordinaire from Pete’s previous band Jigsaw.
A series of acoustic gigs across the South Lanarkshire and Glasgow
area followed and the trio started churning out material that was
more than worthy of a full band. And the dream became a reality when
old friend Drew Morgan moved back to his native Scotland and filled
the vacant position on drums.
With
much excitement they plotted world domination...but what to call
themselves? A string of bad names followed; from Threefold to Crimes
Against Badgers, when suddenly all the pieces fell into place...
One evening in late October, Table 57 launched onto the Glasgow
music scene in style! As soon as they took to the stage in McChuills
and the first intro rang out the band knew they were onto something
special. After the gig friends and punters alike expressed their
excitement in the unique sound of the newest band on the block.
In the remaining months of 2005 the band gathered momentum with a
series of gigs culminating in a headlining show in Soundhaus before
going into Maybank Studios to record their eagerly awaited demo,
Life Beyond Pleasure. The ambition and talent of Table 57 combined
with the skill and expertise of producer Matt Harvey to create
something a bit special in the resulting EP. The single Not Alone
attracted widespread praise with reviewers calling it sheer
class of well orchestrated guitar/skins and stomping bass...and
one proclaiming This track is
something for Radio 1 airplay and needs elevation!
Table 57 spent Hogmanay jumping and screaming along to their EP and
after a few beers vowed to make 2006 a great year for the Tables -
and they weren’t joking! In the first few months the band have
played gigs in The Vale, Firefly, Barfly, Liquid Lounge and further
afield in Kilmarnock and Falkirk with good friends Superslide. With
every gig came new fans and friends but the band were not happy and
kept striving to take it up yet another gear, both in terms of music
and awareness.
They
played their biggest gig to date in April 2006, producing an
electrifying performance while supporting former Crash Test Dummies
artist Son of Dave at King Tuts, days after Not Alone received its
first radio play on XFM. With new EP [openbracketclosebracket]
recorded and a UK tour in the pipeline it is a very exciting time
for Table 57 and Scottish music...their legendary live performances
and infectious lyrics are destined for the top – make sure you
catch them while you can.
