Biography

Voodoo 7:2 are a five piece Wirral/Liverpool band that play a sound described as post punk funk – but better! They have been credited as having hints of 80’s New York punk funk, The Gang Of Four and even Franz Ferdinand.

The band began in late 2015 as an experimental studio outfit but rapidly realised they were rather good, and so took their funk to the streets.. Initially under the guise; Trip, but following legal wrangles became Voodoo 7:2 in June 2005

Comprising; Ivan – Vox, Keys

Mark – Bass

Mike – Keys, Vox, Gtr

Jay – Gtr

Dan – Drums

Ivan claims to be an Art student who can’t sing, whose dancing compensates for the fact and to have Danger Mouse as a role model

Mark attends LIPA, probably as the cleaner; listens to thrash metal, and DJ’s under the guise Darth Fader

Mike also attends LIPA, as the cleaners assistant; was born in Birmingham and rather bizarrely admires Jamie Cullum, is there a connection?

Dan is a real student, with a real drummer’s haircut

Jay is odd, that’s because he works as a research scientist, and was born and raised on a farm

From a confusing range of influences and desires, the band have created an infectious sound that singles them out from many other outfits.

They collectively write and perform their own material.

Voodoo 7:2 have played at numerous Liverpool venues including The Magnet, The Zanzibar, and The Barfly, and have also played in Chester and North Wales. Inducing wild funk thrashing from their growing audience, they have had radio airplay Wirral Buzz FM, KCR 106.7FM and BBC Radio Wales (Adam Walton), in addition to appearing in the local press, (Wirral Globe) and on numerous websites – gigwise.com, livemagazine.com, link2wales.co.uk, www.amnesiac.co.uk etc

But what do I know? A recent comment made was “quirky beats and rhythms that will have you jumpin and jivin like Stephen Hawkins on acid” add to that “lyrics to make you think (of what I’m not sure)”

As a goodbye gesture Trip were included on the recently released Liverpool CD compilation ‘Sidetrack’ available at Probe Records, Liverpool and direct at www.sidespor.no

Voodoo 7:2 made their first public appearance under that name at Telfords Warehouse, Chester on the 21st July 2005. A number of dates have been booked for the forthcoming months, including a first appearance at The Cavern, L’Pool, and a return to The Barfly.
