Yvonne Lake has been
playing solo gigs for less than a year, yet she has
already made an impact in her home town of Nottingham, playing
such venues as The Social and Cabaret, and gaining support slots
with Circulus and Beats Capri.
Initially playing
guitar in other people's bands at College, she became
compelled to compose and sing her own songs. Her style is best
described as alternative/acoustic/folk, influences including
Rufus Wainwright, Leonard Cohen and Morrissey, in terms of sharp
lyrical turns of phrase and pleasing melodies. Breaking
hearts with the lament of a lost love one moment,
entertaining with a quirky anecdote the next, this is an artist
who knows how to win over the crowd. Add to this a voice that
soars joyfully or aches mournfully with emotion, and you have all
the ingredients for a compelling, intimate performance.
