Hi
Everyone,
What a great weekend! We arrived Friday and loved every minute of it. Big thanks
to Angie and Charlene for being there at the first gig at The Cavern Pub, it was
great to see you both, and the gigs were just great, loved the Cavern the most though. The sound there was brilliant so a big cheers to the "sound"
guys. Thanks for all your support as well to Jo, Lucy, Dawn, Stevie P, Trev, Chris
and Gaz, Will and Frank, Jean, the three lovely girls who bought the CD's and
where in the front for the 3.00pm Cavern gigs (please email us!) and of course
the lovely Rhian and Ali our ultimate photographers! Apart from playing we still
managed to catch a few bands! The Overtures are just amazing, Den you are a
truly gifted musician and we were in awe of you!, The Fab Faux Ex Factor gig was
one of my highlights of 13 years of Beatle Weeks, fantastic stuff. Also there
was an amazing band at The Cavern Pub before we went on called Mad Dogs, what a
band...brilliant. Bob Bartey and Banned on the Run were the best I can ever
recall seeing them, brilliant Bob, congratulations on you and your band. Last
but not least ..The Prellies,
rose to the occasion at the Academy, brilliant gig.
So here's
to next year, thanks to everyone for putting on such an unforgettable
weekend.

Hi there Cavern Dwellers,
Just a quick message & some photos from the prellies to say thanks for a
great week. It really does get better every year. Highlights include Mad Dogs
and Get Back Trio, Beatlemaniacs, Beat Brothers and also Lawrence G. who played
a superb set in the Adelphi Pearce room this year, shortly after exchanging secret
handshakes with Jules prellie.
Was gutted that we missed The Repeatles this year because everyone was raving
about them and The Tearaways.. We did get to meet a live Repeatle in Ye
Cracke though, he was very clean, which is always a good sign, our Adopted
Danish journalist, Morton, was very impressed! So, all in all a fab week.
No Complaints except that The Cavern don't serve 'Wobbly Bob', the finest
pint of Bitter in Merseyside.
Lastly, a very big thank you for the CCT team for clubbing together to buy our
prawn sandwich & council pop rider at the Academy, though it would've been
nice if Neil B hadn't already eaten half of it. Can we have fruit salad
next time please? Helen said she'll chop it... ;)
Thanks again for a great week, hope to see you all again next year!

Thanks for yet another great week.
Too many great bands to list them all... but the highlights for me had to be The
Repeatles, Bob Bartey singing Fine Line (Nice one!!), Neil Innes and The Rutles,
The Mersey Beatles, The Prellies, The Beat Brothers... I could go on all day !!
Can't wait to see what's in store for next year!!
And as neither Neil B or Bob Bartey could come up with enough blackmail money
I'm sending the photo !!!! :)

A
Survivors Guide to International Beatles Weeks Festival 2005.
The prospect of another Beatle Week
Festival always comes with some trepidation as we get off the train at Liverpool
Lime Street. A rolling programme of live music, supported by 60 groups this
year, is no small challenge to a couple of first generation Beatle fans.
Particularly when so many of the live music venues are hot and heaving without a
chair to sit on.
Once over the frustration of having to pay £
8 for the programme brochure, (the most valuable purchase of the weekend,
despite its inflated price), its down to the Cavern Club and onto the dance
floor. Our eye glasses instantly steam up with the sauna temperature and
humidity. “Feel free to take your clothes off” says somebody on stage. This
year we are greeted by the “Beat Beatles” a local band still in their teens
that were already able to perform a tight set, but more in their favour, able to
display a healthy level of Beatle type humour on stage between themselves and
the audience.
Then after three hours the heat takes it toll and we escape from the nostalgia
of the underground experience into cool Liverpudlian air. This year we are in
the Travel Inn Hotel, a pleasant change from the under refurbished Adelphi Hotel
that these days seems to be reserved for naive rich Americans and those that
book a year in advance. But the décor on the ground floor still has a certain
feeling of awe about it and as a base for Beatle Week it can not be
beaten.
The evening highlight is a concert at the Carling Academy, to be entertained by
the Fab Faux. It never fails to amaze us that so many Americans, who have never
been to Liverpool, are not aware
that over last the few years this group from New York have won the hearts of
International Beatle Week with
their commitment to accurate renditions of Fab 4 songs combined with a very high
level of musicianship. So strong is their support that this year Sid Bernstein
was present to watch them perform and sing their praises, the man who introduced
the Beatles to America
A fast walk to the Adelphi Hotel after the
concert, dodging in and out of the alcohol influenced night life on the streets,
takes us to the American Bar with an excellent impromptu performance from
Rolando Giambelli, and some unknown guitarist playing a Gibson sunburst guitar
that stole the imagination of those listening and watching as the guitar riff
for “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is taken to another level that will never
be repeated in terms of improvisation and awesome finger-picking skills.
Something to dream about as we go to bed at 2.00am.
Sunday is much the same old routine with a
quick tour of the Convention market stalls revealing the normal overpriced
merchandise that can be better purchased on Ebay. But still we are tempted by
the larger than normal range of Beatle related DVD’s this year. We become the
proud owners of “Concert for Bangladesh”, looking forward to seeing George
in his element as the spiritual do-gooder of the Beatles. Then a quick thank you
to Richard Porter, President of the
British Beatles Fan Cub, (his exemplar retentive memory has no problem
remembering us from bygone “happenings” despite having never seen him for
several years).
We then make our way to what is now known colloquially as the “Cavern
Quarter” and dive into the Cavern Pub, whose licensee just happens to be Bill
Heckle, owner of Cavern City Tours and the brainchild of the Liverpool Beatle
Week for last umpteen years. We listen to “Marcos” play Lennon songs live on
acoustic guitar. As a Lennon
impersonator he does not quite look the part, despite the Peace Corps style
uniform he is wearing. But his voice is hauntingly close to that of John, and
this alone combined with a friendly personality, wins the affection of the
growing crowd sipping their beer and singing along to “Stand by Me”.
Something about the man makes it worth our while to see him perform three
times over the weekend.
After a quick cat-nap at the hotel and a
short wait in the queue outside the Cavern Club we are back on the dance floor.
At every Beatle Week there is always one band that brings some fresh sprit and
new sounds to an already well played repertoire of Beatles songs. This year it
is “Magical Mystery Tour”, all the way from Venezuela, and as overwhelmed by
the Liverpool experience as those that were listening to their Latin American
style accompanied by two violins and a cello. Their performance of “Golden
Slumbers” really shook the dance floor when asked for an encore.
“Monday Morning creeping like a Nun” and
we fail to make the last sitting for breakfast at the Hotel. With aching limbs
as a result of too much drinking and dancing the night before we make our way
down Matthew Street like a couple of cripples without a Green Card.
Strong cups of coffee in Albert Docks fail to sort the problem until late
afternoon when the old adrenaline kicks in and we are back on the circuit again
diving in and out of live venues and “ye-olde-type” pubs that seem to litter
the streets of Liverpool, retaining much of the atmosphere of tradition and
history that besots you as walk around this great city.
Monday evening we hit the wall and go to bed before midnight. Time is running
out and so is our stamina. We get up at 9am, have breakfast, go shopping for
Liverpool mementos, then back into the Cavern for the “Lennon Remembered”
concert. The whole weekend has seen groups giving respect and recognition for
John, being the 25th year since his wasted death. Emotions run high
as we embark on our train back to London in the evening. The weight of our
rucksacks was far less than the memories that Beatles week had yet again managed
to rejuvenate.
Yes Folks – “We Still Love the
Beatles”. So see you all next
year even if we are not getting any younger !
