Biography
BUGFLY so far….. The story of Bugfly began in late 1999 after a chance meeting between singer Patty and guitarist Scott at the Dublin Castle, in Camden. After a few pints and a lengthy conversation about the brilliance of bands such as Blondie and Smashing Pumpkins, the idea of the band was formed. The two founder members now started to hang out in all sorts of dives, putting the word about that they were looking for musicians to complete the line up. They booked a string of gigs with friends helping out on instruments, and tried to attract the attention of possible new members. It was a year later and by coincidence at the Dublin Castle, that a young drummer called Paul spotted them and asked if he could join the band. Testing him by challenging him to a drinking session and making him drum to songs on the bar table, the third member was found.

With the band now almost complete, the members decided to go into the studio and record a few tracks. With their dirty riffs and melodic vocals they created a sound void of any fancy production tricks, preferring a slightly more organic approach. Pretty soon the demo started to float around and create a buzz, earning the band favourable reviews. Music magazines compared their sound to bands such as the Pixies and Garbage, and gig promoters raved about their energetic live performance of blistering rock that left the weak running.

It was a year later when the band were finally approached by a bass player called Caz who had been searching for a band to join for a while. Armed with only a beaten up old bass Caz started gigging with the band a week after meeting them. With their fourth member in place, Bugfly now embarked on taking the gigging scene by storm. Playing like there was no tomorrow, they soon built up a fan base of disillusioned kids, quirky adults and complete weirdoes.

Late last summer the band received a call from a producer called James Sanger who has heard their demo and was eager to meet the band. After months of exchanging e-mails about completely obscure subjects, the recording date was finally set. The band knew they were in for a hell of a ride, when the first day they arrived at the studio and James decided to greet them with an AK 47 in his right hand and a pistol in his left. Not knowing what he might do next, the band thought it was best to play their songs to the best of their ability and avoid getting shot.

Meanwhile back in London, Steve Lamacq heard the bands previous demo and decided to feature them on his unsigned website. Soon all the freaks and geeks in the internet cafes were voting for the band, getting them in the top 10 of the unsigned chart. Two weeks after the start of the recording session with James, and after being thrown out of most of the local bars, Bugfly came back to London with three of their best tracks recorded. It took the band a few months to secure a publishing deal and any day now they are due to go back to record the rest of the album with James Sanger.
