together, studied together, busked around Europe together and
nearly died together following a hair-raising post-gig car
crash on the
M1 near Rugby…Cardboard Radio are Andy Gaines, Simon “Simo”
Benn “Chord” Cordrey, who acquired their name following a
busking tour of
Europe, where they encountered a Czech tramp who would dance around
whilst precariously balancing an old box on his shoulder,
convinced the music was
coming from his makeshift ghetto blaster as the boys
serenaded the Prague streets.
The Yorkshire three-piece have been fervently writing, promoting and
gigging since the start
of 2016, firmly establishing themselves on the local
scene and amassing the ever-growing support of the “Cardie Army”.
Having played over 150
shows from the smallest, dankest pubs and working men’s
clubs to prestigious live venues in London, Manchester, Leeds,
and York, the band has appeared on TV show “UK Unsigned”,
recorded their second EP with tracks appearing on karmadownload.com
and Barfly’s ‘Best of Barfly Unsigned’’ collection and
received much attention
from regional and national press.
Recent supports with major label acts have allowed the band to show
themselves in the same
league as the likes of “The Others”, “The Glitterati”,
“Maxïmo Park” and “The Arctic Monkeys”, and 2005 has
already seen the boys
organising their own 2 week national tour, culminating
in a sell-out headline at York Fibbers Barfly, as well as securing
slots at the Moor Music and Carling Leeds Festivals and much more
gigging and recording to come.
“…You pray for a
band who believes like you do in the glorious life affirming
clatter of maximum mod-soul ROCK AND ROLL! You need a band prepared
to testify! Hip cats and kittens, I present to you a band battling
at the punk blues front line. I present to you: CARDBOARD RADIO!”
Paul Lowman, The Link.
