Devils River was first
conceived in 2015 when Johnny and Pete got together for a jam.
A couple of months
later and Bill answered an advert in a music store, the guys met up
and instantly hit it off, Devils River was born.
Johnny has been
playing guitar for a couple of decades now and has played live and
jammed with various rock and rhythm line ups over the last fifteen
years and many years ago played bass with a Beatles cover band.
Pete has been
involved with various bands since the age of 12 when he was a heavy
metal singer, but has found a home in the deep and solid tones of
the bass guitar!
Bill has never been
able to stop his heart from beating out fine rhythms and has played
with numerous musicians and line ups over the years, always happy to
jam!
When the band first
started playing together they had a mixed background, Johnny was a
keen student of Texas style blues and named the band after an area
of natural beauty in South Texas called Devils River. It is a
national park close to the border with Mexico and has a beautiful
and interesting landscape.
There are a couple of
myths as to why the River in this area was named Devils River. The
one the band favour was that it was so called by the native
Americans because they could not locate the source of the river, it
just springs up from within the earth, and so they felt it was a
work of magic by a devil or demon.
Devils River have
their grounding in the blues having started life playing sets of
cover songs by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Freddie
King, Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The raw energy and passion
of blues music is something that is loved worldwide and in days
where the commercial mainstream is increasingly full of stylised
music that seems to be more about fashion than passion many people
find solace in music that is gritty and packed with energy and
emotion.
The band are
exhilarating live, and audiences can feel the passion for the music
as the trio give their all to each note and beat.
Building on their
solid blues foundation Devils River have penned a number of their
own songs which are becoming increasingly popular with live
audiences. The band have a great time playing superb renditions
of songs by their much loved influences argely based around 50's and
60's blues and blues rock, and continue developing their body of
original material which builds upon the rhythms and tonality of the
blues and maintains the passion of the lyrical content without
losing a fresh and new appeal.
Devils River have had
radio airplay on BBC radio Merseyside, their local station Dune FM,
The Double Trouble radio show on Osnabruecker Radio, Germany, and
BeauBFM, Limoges, France.
They have an original CD
for sale from their website, amazon.co.uk, cdbaby, and from HMV
Southport (available to order from any HMV outlet), in its first
week of release it outsold Robbie Williams, Madonna and Depeche Mode
in the local HMV store.
