The Killing Time were
formed in 1986 with original members singer/songwriter Neil McPhail,
Stuart Westwood on Bass and Johnny Mulhall on drums playing their
music to small crowds in and around Glasgow.
The trio became a
four piece later that year when Stevie Cogan was drafted in to play
lead guitar. The band then showcased the KT sound in venues around
the country followed by several sessions in the studio to capture
the energy of the live sound on tape.
Despite many major
record labels flying up to Scotland to review the band it was a case
of quite close but no cigar for that lucrative multi million pound
record deal.
Many years passed
along with several line-up changes the boys decided to call it a day
and concentrate on more mundane matters.
However…
This year Stevie
Cogan was discussing music with his brother Billy and the subject of
the KT came up. Intrigued they called into Neil’s house on the way
home and found him locked in the loft (Covered in cobwebs) with a
self penned and recorded album of brand new material.
The KT was reborn.
So with the brand new
line up of Neil (Obviously) Stevie Cogan, – Guitars, Nige Alderson
– Guitars, Billy Cogan – Bass Guitar, Andy Campbell – Drums
they have a repertoire of twenty odd new songs which they were keen
to take on the road.
With the studio dates
for the recording of the new album – HANGING BY A THREAD- upcoming
the band decided to take the songs on
the road to see which were strong enough to be recorded.
The highlight of the
showcases being the gig at the legendary CAVERN CLUB in Liverpool,
where the new songs went up against a multi national line-up of
bands from as far afield as El-Salvador and Canada.
The new songs went
down a storm with the multi-national crowd and the band partied hard
into the early hours.
The Gig at the Cavern
was such a success that the boys have been invited back on the
13th November alongside the fabulous YOUNG HIPS
for some more of the same.
See ya there!
