The Layne formed in
September 2016. School friends Andrew Smith (bass) and Craig
Sergeant (Guitar) ended their 4 year search for a complete band with
the recruitment of lead vocalist Chris Butler and drummer Andrew
Picton.
Sharing a love of
vocal harmonies in the vein of Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Beach
Boys and The Byrds, coupled with the fluid rhythms of Motown and
Soul and the more contemporary sounds of The La’s, The Smiths and
The Stone Roses, the 4-piece began rehearsing solidly in a warehouse
in Wigan.
Spending several
months locked away in the claustrophobic confines of their rehearsal
rooms, The Layne developed their wound; emerging for their debut gig
on 1st December 2016 at the now demolished Lux Club in Wigan.
Since then the Layne
have continued to gig in the Wigan area and further afield in
Manchester as well, gaining ecstatic reviews on their way along with
a considerable following.
