Mark Hemmings - Bass and Vocals
Mark Cushley - Guitar
Kris La-Borde - Guitar
Phil Taylor - Drums
Why Maltese Dog? Spur of the moment decision with the aid of a dictionary and Hemmo's swift
finger. Originally a three piece Ormskirk/Aughton band, they formed
in early 2002 and after careful consideration decided they weren't going anywhere without a
drummer. Unfortunately drummers seemed to be in short supply so they took a chance and made a long term investment in a man called "Phil Taylor"
(even buying him his
own sticks), a good friend, but a man with no musical talent what so ever. However this investment
paid off as Phil's talents quickly grew. Not only did they have a capable
drummer, but an excellent backdrop to their vocals, so much so that a Mr Nick Swift was called in
to free up those arms of his to let him grasp a permanent spot on the mic. But it wasn't
to last, another place another time maybe. It was a long and tiresome road, and despite the
constant fight for practice venues they kept it together (apart from Cush, who had a mental breakdown and re-joined the band 2 months later). They hit the music scene in mid
June with a breath taking debut gig at the infamous "Barons Club" in Burscough. their
music described by most as covers, but good ones at that, and word of mouth has it that they are
currently beavering away in the recording studio's writing their own material.
