Biography
One of the most inventive and distinctive artists to emerge from Scotland, jazz-folk singer-songwriter Sophie Bancroft has drawn comparison to artists as classily diverse as Peggy Lee, Alison Krauss, and Norah Jones. With music in hit TV drama ‘Six Feet Under’, Sophie is currently promoting her most recent CD ‘Hot And Cold’. “This elegant and meticulously produced CD inhabits the border territory between jazz and folk-country-pop, which suits Sophie Bancroft’s cool, rather ethereal voice to perfection.” OBSERVER

Having grown up in one of Scotland’s leading jazz families and serving her apprenticeship in Edinburgh’s jazz and folk scenes, Sophie’s musical journey has taken in many sights and sounds including

·        performances at the South By Southwest Festival, Celtic Connections, Edinburgh International Jazz Festival . . .

·        collaborations with electronic band Spylab, Martin Green’s The Green Machine, Corrina Hewat’s New Voices commission . . .

·        broadcasts on BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, Scotland . . .

With songs about life, her music can be fun, flirty, heart-wrenching, shocking and beautiful.  Sophie has a publishing deal at Bug Music, Los Angeles, and has released 3 CDs on her own label, LisaLeo Records.

“Refreshing and utterly magical” THE HERALD

“Gorgeous, original acoustic music” THE LIST

“A blissful album that has elements of Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald.  Play it on your way out and let it rescue you from the ceiling when you get home.  This album is hip, cool and simply beautiful.” BIG ISSUE

“Sophie Bancroft’s voice will send shivers of sensuality down your spine”
MASSIVE MAGAZINE

“Weaving a tapestry of songs over the course of two hours, her smooth and smoky voice lifts above the mellowed beat of the music, washing over the audience, leaving them transfixed.  Her eclectic mix of jazz, country, blues and folky rock creates a sound that will appeal to everyone for years to come.” THREEWEEKS.CO.UK

“Echoes along the way range from Peggy Lee to Joan Armatrading, Alison Krauss to Bjork, in a boldly achieved balance of the classic and the contemporary.” SUNDAY HERALD

“Sophie Bancroft has an impressive CV that covers jazz, pop and folk.  She draws on all these diverse skills, weaving them through a captivatingly moody set of songs.  There’s an openness and transparency in her songs that communicate, and after all, that’s what it’s all about.” JAZZWISE
