Flash-Arrows & The Money Shot? What the hell does that mean?!... Well,
for one thing it means a Whole Lotta Love & an album chock-full of
tasty riffs to sink your ears into. Star Collector's third outing,
co-produced by ex-Grapes Of Wrath frontman Kevin Kane (The Salteens,
Zumpano) & singer/hack-axeman Vic Wayne, shows the band whole-heartedly
embracing decadent '70's Americana while maintaining their unabashed
love of '60's British power-pop.
Engineered by Ryen Froggatt (Grapes Of Wrath, Neko Case) at Greenhouse Studios & featuring Kevin Kane & Paul Myers ('Popstars' host, producer
& Barenaked Ladies' biographer) on guitars & 'chorus-of-angels'
harmonies, the entire album was recorded AND mixed in just 14 days.
"Holy Sh*t!... really?!"... Yep, AND it was mastered by Chris Potter
(Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright) so sit back...relax... & TURN YOUR
STEREO UP FREAKIN' LOUD!! Filled with mouth-watering guitar histrionics, a rhythm section that would do the Entwistle/Moon axis
proud, thought-provoking lyrics & cavity-inducing ear candy, Star
Collector's Flash-Arrows & The Money Shot will have you screaming out,
"Toys!.. Toys!.. Toys!.. In the Arctic!" for these Canadian lads!
The band's second album, Black-Eyed Soul (2001), was co-produced & mixed by Dean Maher (3 Doors Down, Sloan) at The Warehouse & the first
single, So Beautiful, received a load of airplay on CFOX, X-FM, CBC,
Q-FM (Victoria), CHWV (Nanaimo), CITR, CJSR (Edmonton) & CFRO including
reaching #2 on The Wolf (106.9 FM) in Nanaimo, BC (& spending 14 weeks
in the top 30 there!). It also charted for over 2 weeks on Extreme (107.3FM) in Victoria, BC. The songs, When The Pill Goes Down & Ten
Feet Tall also made the playlist on The Wolf in '02.
Star Collector's debut, Demo Model 256 (1999), was mixed by GGGarth
Richardson (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, 54-40, Catherine Wheel, Kittie) & the singles, Skyscraper & Slowfade, received
tons of airplay on CBC, FM, college & co-op radio as well.
Their first video, Skyscraper, appeared on MuchMusic, MuchWest, CBC & The Independent Music Video Festival & the band has played live on City
TV Breakfast, VTV Breakfast & Urban Rush. They also recorded Leonard
Cohen's Bird On The Wire for the feature film, Sons Of Cohen.
Star Collector's songs are featured on The Canadian Independent Box Set, JetSet 1, Northern Lights Vol. 1 & Local Harmonies compilation
CDs. Also, So Beautiful, will be appearing on the Wizzard Brew Vol. 2
compilation (Japan), & Love And All It Kills will be on a Not Lame
compilation; in the near future. To boot, a CD-rom put out by Riffage.com called JetSet 2, which featured Skyscraper, was distributed
with the June '00 issue of SPIN Magazine.
All 3 of the band's albums are distributed by Indieland (Canada), Not Lame & Kool Kat (U.S.) & Wizzard In Vinyl (Japan). They are available
through CDBaby.com on-line, as well, & So Beautiful & Slowfade were
both named Track Of The Day on Garageband.com in '02.
Their
live shows, including their Oct. '04 European Tour (London,
Liverpool, Munster,
Cologne) & their July '04 West Coast U.S. Tour (L.A., San
Francisco, Portland,
Seattle), both for the International Pop Overthrow Festival, come
complete
with scissor-kicks, bombastic riffs & a fetishistic love of
velour. They've
also played New Music West, & opened for 54-40, Starling &
The Boss Martians).
Always hot & sticky affairs, the boys try to clean up after
themselves
whenever humanly possible.
