This was by far British
Export's favorite trip to Liverpool. Our list of friends just keeps growing
and growing.
Thanks to Ray and Bill for bringing us back for our fourth year in a row.
Highlights include our Thursday Cavern Club show, Friday at the Cavern Pub and
Rear Cavern Club stage, Sunday at the Adelphi, and Monday on Castle Street and
at the Royal Court.
Also Gavin and I really enjoyed
doing the Fantasy Reunion Concert with Lawrence and Tim as well as Working Class
Hero.
Already counting the days for next year.

It
was the first time for Brazilian Black Bird Beatles Cover Band in
Liverpool. And it was magic. "We could actually feel the presence of the
Fab Four on these places they surely remember, such as the Cavern Club and
Mathew Street". For some of the band musicians, it was their first time in
the city, flying all the way from Brazil. "First, you don't really realize
what's happening but the next day, you feel like you're part of it all",
says Flávio Armony, the keyboard player. "I've waited for thirty-five
years to realize this dream", says Ivan Barros, who was inspired for Paul
McCartney to start playing bass guitar. Kico Ferreira, lead guitar player, had
been there once, "but now I'm with my family, it's completely
different", says, referring to his wife and kid as well as to his band,
that he considers so. The twenty-one-year-old guitarist Thiago Henrique had
never left his country before, "and my first time couldn't have been
better", says the boy.
The band played
twice at the Cavern Club
At the Crompton's, inside the Adelphi Hotel.

It’s
Paul Davie – bassist/manager/PR guy for The Fab Five, based in Liverpool, NY
USA. We
were honored to have been invited as one of only 7 bands (outside of solo
performers) from the US to be included in ‘The American Invasion’.
All of us were inspired by The Beatles’ appearance on The Ed Sullivan
Show in 1964, to become musicians. (I wasn’t born until 1965, but my mom still
called me ‘Paul’ after her favorite Beatle!). And this was a thrill that is
very hard t put into words.
An
added bonus was to represent sister city LIVERPOOL, NY, which is a 5 hour drive
north of New York City. We had lots of fundraising support, and it was nice to see the community
‘Come Together’ to help send us over.
The
most incredible thing for me was the ‘love vibe’ I felt throughout the city.
I had my wallet nicked less than halfway through our stay, but I got it
back with everything inside except the 20 pounds cash. Long story…but just an example of how nice everyone was.
Americans could take lessons from the Brits in that respect.
I
loved getting to know musicians from all over the world, despite the language
barriers. We
were all talking the same language, weren’t we?! I also loved meeting fellow Americans on the official tour.
I feel like I have made friends for life.
Here
my personal highlights:
-
Ripping
into our first song, ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’, as the first official
band of Beatle Week at The Cavern Club on Thursday afternoon….an honor in
itself. I was so overcome with
emotion after dreaming the dream for 29 years. Thank God I wasn’t singing!
-
The
Royal Court Theater show – what a glorious theater. Great sound system, and gracious crowd response for an encore?
Wow!!
-
The
Magical Mystery Tour – namely Strawberry Fields, and Penny Lane. I felt connected to John & Paul at that point.
-
Meeting
the ORIGINAL Quarrymen – oh my God, I met living history. Colin Hanton (who played with JP&G on the ‘lost acetate’?)
was so very nice.
-
Cavern
Club Sunday night – I lost every possible toxin in my body through the
sweat pouring out. I felt a
type of baptism occurred. And
then, as an encore (another one?!) we brought our new friend from Denver –
Frank Longobard – to sing ‘I’m Down’ on stage, fulfilling HIS dream,
too! Frank was diagnosed with
throat cancer 5 years ago and wasn’t supposed to talk…he beat the damn
disease and that night, sang the song like he owned it. The crowd went NUTS!
-
Castle
Street Stage in front of that huge crowd. And the locals telling us we sounded just as good as The Beatles.
I don’t know about that, but it was nice to hear.
-
The
Fab Faux Psychedelic Show – my jaw has STILL not come from off the floor.
-
Being
personally invited by Bill Heckle to play again next year, and that our gift
to the city – a metal sign commemorating “Liverpool USA to Liverpool
UK’ – is being mounted on the outside entrance to The Cavern Club.
Gratitude seems to be not enough for what I feel for that gesture.
We are very proud to have been part of Beatle Week 2016.
Favorite
Bands (of course we couldn’t catch them all):
The Fab Faux, The Fab Four, Me & My Monkey, ’62, Akoustica, Ringer,
Clube Big Beatles, The Parrots, and the award for ‘The Band Who Really Gets
What It’s All About’ – THE PRELLIES!
I
have attached some pictures for this scrapbook entry.
