Kounterfeit Kinks is much more than simply a band playing the music of the Kinks. Our aim is
to recreate as closely as possible the sounds and styles of the classic era Kinks from 1964-1970.
Authentic outhts and instruments help recapture the 1 960s Kinks live experience. To date, the band has invested over £5,000 in acquiring guitars, amplifiers and costumes. The only difference between our show and a 1960s Kinks is the length of our set (over 90 minutes) and the vast improvement in sound quality! Short of gethng in a time machine, this is as close to a real 1960s Kinks concert as you’ll get.
Our set is made up of virtually all the Kinks singles released during the period from 1964 to 1970, plus a number of well known EP and LP tracks Including a selection from 1968’s classic ‘Village Green Preservation Society’ album.
In presenting the Kinks songs live, we aim to stay as close as possible to the sound of the original tracks. Arrangements and instrumentation are carefully reproduced in a line up that features no new technology, computers or sampling. Our equipment comprises the same basic guitars, bass and drums line up of the original Kinks, with piano on selected tracks.
At the heart of the Kinks sound, both live and on record, is the distinctive vocal style of Ray Davies. Whether camping it up on tracks like ‘Dedicated Follower of Fashion’ or belting it out on ‘You Really Got Me’, Ray’s vocals were an integral part of the group’s appeal. Kounterfeit Kinks is fronted by an extraordinary Ray Davies
soundalike/ lookalike, backed up by a rhythm section that sounds more like the original Kinks than you can possibly imagine.
The Kinks themselves wouldn’t sound this much like their 1 960s incarnation if they were to play again today. It’s this level of attention to detail that puts Kounterfeit Kinks right up alongside today’s leading 60s tribute acts.
The band’s members have all been active in various tribute/ coven original bands for over fIfteen years, and all hail from the
Nottinghamshire/ Derbyshire area wjth the surprising exception of our lead guitarist, who is from REM’s home town of Athens, Georgia, USA!
