Born
in London, England to Marc Bolan (seventies rock icon) and Gloria
Jones (seventies soul diva) Marc’s son became known as Rolan Bolan.
By Late Sept 77 Marc’s life was tragically cut short when his car
crashed, Marc was only 29 when he passed away. He had left a string
of hits behind him including GET IT ON, HOT LOVE, METAL GURU,
JEEPSTER, RIDE A WHITE SWAN, 20th CENTRY BOY, also he had left his
young son.
Rolan
was only an 18-month-old child when this tragedy had struck and in
The middle of the aftermath a discussion had taken place that the
young Rolan was to be moved to his mother’s home back in Los
Angles USA where he was raised. Now as a man, he has no memory of
his father..
He
only has the music and the legacy that he left him.
Rock
and soul is at the start of this story, and it’s where we still
are! With the obvious reputation that was hanging over his shoulders
plus the expectation that has been looming over Rolan ever since he
first walked on stage. It has not been easy ‘some people expect to
see and hear something that there not here to see’ some people may
say that he sound’s like his dad and looks like his ma. Well Rolan
is just doing music and the music is just doing fine. Ever Since
1998 Rolan has been playing live shows in L.A, New York, London,
Manchester, Madrid, Paris and the Netherlands. With T.V appearances
on the BBC, ITV, GMTV, VH1, and RTL LIVE, as well as documentaries
on CH 4, “WHO’S GOT BOLAN’S MILLIONS”. As well as his DVD
“IN THE DAYTIME THE STARS WILL SHINE” by ZEST films,
which tells the story of Rolan finding his roots in life and in
music. He has also worked with many top named producers such as The
Dust Brothers, Dave Scher of all night radio, and artists such as
Black Eyed Peas, and Finely Quaye.
Rolan’s
sound can’t be described as anything else other then ‘rock and
soul’. Today Rolan uses a mixture of influences such as AL GREEN,
LOVE, ELEPANT RUCKUS, JEFF BUCKLEY, LED ZEPPELIN, BILL WITHERS,
ROLLING STONES and T.REX. Stick this lot together with a splash of
beer and sunshine, and you start to see the blueprint for where
Rolan’s sound is coming from. The bands are a strange mix of West
Coast Americans and Northern English. First up is Bert Thomas, a
session drummer from Atlanta/LA whose sessions have taken him all
over the world, who has worked with many a top name. Up next is
Vince ‘Vinny’ Rock a guitarist from East Yorkshire, England who
first met Rolan when he attended the Cambridge Corn Exchange show
way back in Sept ’97, which was the first time Rolan had ever sung
in public. Next we have Dave Lawry, a bass player from Vinces
hometown back in East Yorkshire, Bridlington.
Now,
in 2016, Rolan is ready to further what is already there: ˜A soul..
a musical soul’ and to put his sound across to the hearts and
minds of generations wanting
to listen. The public are bored with the formula of what they are
being served up on the radio and t.v. What’s happened! Where’s
the love? Where’s the meaning? Where’s the passion? The publics
are already intrigued by his presence. He has unique contagious
energy, that is certain to incite some female attention, and has an
unabrasive, mellow vibe that men can relate to. He’s a combination
of spirit and show. Now
is the time for the new age solid groove funk soundof, pure raw
“ROCK AND SOUL”.
